Challenge
In 2016, innovation in healthcare has become a prominent trend that has quickly turned into a tangible reality. MSD recognized the importance of being at the forefront of digital advancements and has set a goal to equip healthcare professionals with predictive medical devices to improve the diagnosis of HIV disease. To achieve this goal, MSD enlisted LOAD’s expertise to design, develop and manufacture a device that complies with Directive 93/42/ CEE.
One of the results of this collaboration is the Total Patient Care application, designed specifically for healthcare professionals. This application streamlines the comprehensive and timely assessment of patients, taking into account multiple organ and system factors. Developed as per MSD’s specifications, the application includes multiple scientifically validated risk calculators that enable patient stratification based on renal, cardiovascular, hepatic and other functions. By consolidating these calculators into a single resource, the tool streamlines the assessment and clinical approach to patient comorbidities, resulting in improved time management for healthcare professionals.
Using our B2B innovation methodology supported by a design thinking approach, we successfully developed a Class 1 medical device in software that received CE labeling for compliance with EU regulations. In light of this achievement, LOAD has taken the necessary steps to adapt its quality system and obtain ISO 13485 medical device certification, which is specific to Class I medical devices. This certification guarantees that the Class I medical devices we produce meet strict functional and clinical quality standards that are in compliance with the guidelines outlined in the 93/42/EEC Directive.
The digital system we developed includes a web portal, a web application, and a mobile application for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. These applications are aimed at healthcare professionals and provide a set of calculators to support the diagnosis of HIV-related comorbidities.
With a compelling case study and a strong partnership, LOAD made a notable entry into the healthcare industry. The tool was initially launched in Portugal and distributed to MSD’s medical staff, where it was met with an extremely positive feedback. The extensive functionality and exceptional quality of the developed system have gained international recognition, leading to widespread adoption of the TPC app solution in numerous countries worldwide, with further expansion underway.
